What Is The Composition of The Loudspeaker?

Test For the Sound with and without an Enclosure
We have done a comparative experiment: the sound difference of the speaker with and without the box.

1. When the driver unit is placed outside, the sound is low and thin, without the bass effect.
2. When the driver unit is put into the cabinet, the volume becomes significantly louder with a strong bass effect.
Why They Have A Different Sound?
This is because when the speaker vibrates, not only the front of the speaker produces sound waves, but also the back of the it.
If there is no obstruction, when the front sound waves go around the back, the two opposite sound waves will cancel each other out, and eventually the low-frequency sound waves output will be greatly attenuated.
This phenomenon is called the acoustic short circuit phenomenon.
It is related to the frequency and will be more obvious at a lower frequency.
The Importance of The Loudspeaker Box
This can explain the reason why the sound becomes very thin and lacks low frequency when the driver unit does not have a cabinet.
After putting it into the box, the sound waves on both sides can be separated to avoid the phenomenon of acoustic short circuits, so as to ensure the playback effect of low-frequency signals.
So the loudspeaker box is important to the sound system.
Usually, the manufacturers will put some sound-absorbing cotton in the box to increase the sound-damping effect and make the playback effect better.
What Is The Best Material For Speaker Enclosure?
The preferred material is wood.
Solid wood is the earliest material used to make shells. Although the sound quality is very good, solid wood has insurmountable shortcomings, such as deformation and cracking.
MDF is now mainly used to make cabinets, which are durable and relatively light. At the same time, it can effectively reduce resonance and is a good damping resonance material.
However, compared with plastic, the production efficiency and cost of wooden boxes are not as good as plastic. At present, the main materials of speaker boxes are wood and plastic.
